What if one morning you woke up and you suddenly heard this person’s voice in your head narrating your life? What if that person knew every single detail about you and could accurately say everything you’d eventually do, and one of those things would lead up to your imminent death?
Stanger than Fiction stars Will Ferrell as Harold Crick, a lonely IRS agent whose dull existence is transformed when he awakens one morning to the sound of a mysterious British woman’s voice, narrating his life.
When Harold tries to explain himself to people in the street and his co-workers, he’s seen as this crazy man with Schizophrenia, a mental disorder that makes it hard to tell the difference between what is real and not real. When Harold goes to see a psychologist about his problem, she ends up telling him that he should go see someone who knows about literature.
Harold meets Professor Jules Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman), an experienced man of literature. With his help, Harold discovers that he’s the main character in a novel-in-progress and that the voice belongs to Karen Eiffel (Emma Thompson), a slightly strange author quite famous for killing her main characters in creative ways. Harold must quickly track Eiffel down and stop her before she finds a way to end her “writer’s block” by finishing him off.
Stars in this movie include Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, and Emma Thompson. The release date for Stranger than Fiction was November 10, 2006, and many agree that it’s a well-developed, underrated classic, directed by Marc Forster.
