The best magic does not trick you. It makes you believe.
A young man, an actor, quick, cunning, and a chick magnet. Those are some formidable attributes that make Albany High alumnus Alejandro Torres the great magician that he is.
The Nest recently sat down with the Alejandro to pick his brain. Here’s what the young magician had to say.
The Nest: Tell the school a little bit about yourself and what you do.
Alejandro: I was born in Rochester, NY and my family moved to Albany when I was two years old. I’m really into the arts–film-making, acting, and of course, magic. I entered Albany High in 2008 and graduated last year. During my high school career, I won a bunch of awards and did a lot, but most people knew me for my magic tricks and as Henry Higgins, the lead in last year’s musical, My Fair Lady. I’m currently a student at Hudson Valley, going for an associate degree in liberal arts. I plan on transferring to another college after next year. I’m also glad to be back as a guest artist for West Side Story.
The Nest: When did you start performing magic tricks?
Alejandro: I was about eight when I learned my first magic trick. I started learning more tricks on and off throughout my childhood. Then in my sophomore year of high school, I really jumped into it.
The Nest: What’s your best trick?
Alejandro: It’s hard to say. Everyone has different opinions so everyone has a different “favorite trick” that I perform. My favorite tricks to do are card tricks and mind reading effects. Those never fail to impress.
The Nest: When and where is your next upcoming show?
Alejandro: After an audition process, I was hired by my college to perform some close-up magic for an event called Spring Fest on April 25th. I don’t know what to expect, but I can’t wait!
The Nest: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself or your magic career?
Alejandro: I enjoy candle-lit dinners and long walks in the park.
The Nest: This is not a dating site. Jest aside, what is your favorite quote from a magician?
Alejandro: “Love and magic have a great deal in common. They enrich the soul, delight the heart, and they both take practice.” – Nora Roberts
You can see Alejandro in West Side Story, running from April 18th through the 21st, or at Hudson Valley’s Spring Fest on April 25th. You can be sure that whenever you see Alejandro, you’re in for a magical experience.
