2013 was a year full of changes. Whether it was during President Barack Obama’s initial attempts to forward his medical care plan, the piece of meteor that snuck its way into Russia, or the female icon Miley Cyrus revealing her true self to television screens around the world at the VMA’s.
The average family living room entertainment experience also changed this year as new television series’ took many people away from the theaters. Shows like: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead make this year the year of good television. That’s not to say that there weren’t any fantastic movies this year such as: The Great Gatsby, Iron Man 3, and The Butler, but this year, television made a comeback!
Speaking of television, this year was also the year of the gamer, as both Microsoft and Sony took opposite sides in their approach to future game development. Microsoft stuck to an approach where television applications were their main edition in their new product the: Xbox One, and Sony stuck to an approach where games were at the center of their development. Of the many games this year the most awaited was presented by the company: Rockstar Games, because they brought back a classic game: Grand Theft Auto.
The most prominent figure this year was most likely that of Pope Francis. He is a pope who is now known for having a simpler and less formal approach to the papacy. The Pope, while he affirmed the present Church teachings, stated that Catholics have concentrated excessively on condemning abortion, contraception, and homosexual acts, while neglecting the greater need for tenderness, mercy and compassion.
Lastly, nearing the end of 2013 there were many surprising deaths among historical figures as well as in popular culture. The first of which was Nelson Mandela. His actions to inspire peace in our world will continue to live on throughout time. Also, Paul Walker, a prominent figure in popular culture witnessed a fast and furious death during a devastating car crash in 2013 as he was preparing his next movie: Fast and Furious 7.
There are many unknown challenges that await us in the next upcoming months. But the first challenge for many of us will have to be getting used to writing 2014 on all our paperwork coming into the new year. The Nest wishes our readers a happy and successful new year in 2014!
