DisneyPlus: What is it?
Disney Channel has now expanded its monopoly on kids entertainment, and has now introduced its new streaming service; “Disney Plus”.
This platform features classic Disney movies such as “Lemonade Mouth”, as well as old TV series which we all refer to as old Disney, aka the prime of Disney. Old Disney is shows like “Good Luck Charlie” and “Shake it up”-shows that deserve a re-watching today. So yes, Disney Plus is quite popular with young kids who enjoy Disney shows, and nostalgic teenagers who want another taste of their childhoods.
However, Disney Plus does not just have Disney Channel content, it has content from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and even National Geographic. This means that Netflix will have to step up its game because with all that nostalgic content, it may cause Netflix to become less popular. This rivalry may be why Nickelodeon shows like “Victorious” have appeared on Netflix, because the intended audience seems to love old Nickelodeon shows.
Here are the details on Disney Plus. The service itself costs $7 for a month or $70 for a year, in a bundle with Hulu and ESPN it costs $13 a month. Also, if you’re not sold on the platform you can try Disney Plus for a week completely free.
Will Netflix continue to its dominance in the streaming service world? Will Disney Plus prosper or die out? Are streaming services becoming based on nostalgia, rather than simply entertainment? These are all questions to consider as we leave 2019 and entertainment advances into 2020.
