Lando Norris secured his first Formula 1 win this past weekend (5/5) in Miami, Florida in a race to remember. Initially expected to be a dull race, everyone was pleasantly surprised. Around mid way in the race, a safety car was put out in response to an incident between Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant. Prior to this incident, Verstappen was comfortably leading the race for 21 laps. Norris was in 5th place and had not pitted yet. However, he was able to use this opportunity to pit quickly and pull ahead of Verstappen, where he comfortably stayed the rest of the race. Pit stops are crucial to race success, both to the actual pit stop of the changing of the tyres and when a team decides to pit. Norris ended the race with a time of +7.6 seconds ahead of Max.
Following him on the Podium was Red Bull driver/most frequent winner, Max Verstappen and Ferrari driver/my personal favorite, Charles Leclerc. This was an amazing podium with 3 superstars. These race results were very unpredictable in fact, as Max is more times than not the one on top of the podium. These results ended in Lando earning 25 points for his drivers championship point race and scoring points for McLaren in the constructors championship point race. A lot went into the preparation for this race, including a week of testing, new livery’s and even new race suits for Ferrari(Blue!).
This weekend in Miami was a scorcher, with temperatures 80-90°F and the track temperature well over 100°F. Many celebrities were spotted, including Camila Cabello and Tom Brady. This is not uncommon, as these American celebrities tend to frequent the Miami GP but also the Las Vegas and Texas GP’s. Also, brands will fly some celebrities and influences out to help promote their brand through brand trips. With these people in the paddock around the racers friends and family, it can make the hot day an absolute scorcher.
